Uphill challenge for the Weapons Leadership Team

On Friday 19 September 35 volunteers from the Weapons Division Extended Leadership Team and some of our new graduates met in the Lake District to hike up the 950m Helvellyn, combining a teambuilding exercise with raising money for one of our chosen corporate charities, Cancer Research UK.

The hike, which has raised a whopping £3,100 so far, covered a distance of 8.8 miles and took seven hours. Demonstrating determination, collaboration and expert organisational skills the team achieved their goal. Along the way, two of the group suffered significant knee problems but their perseverance – combined with very supportive colleagues – meant they carried on regardless and everybody got up (and down!) safely.

Graduate James Moughton said: “As well as being a good physical challenge for a fantastic cause, it gave me a brilliant opportunity as a new graduate to meet and get to know the senior leadership team within the division. As a bit of an adventurer, the best part for me was the demanding rock climb up to the summit at the end of Striding Edge”

“Teambuilding is all about getting to know people better – and sharing adversity certainly does this,” observed Andrew Ryan, Commercial Director. Fellow teammate Chris Wren, Sales Operation Manager, said that the personal relationships built through events like this makes working together so much easier.

Although it was a fairly gruelling hike, some of the team even opted for the more difficult route right along the top of Striding Edge on route to the top! However, as the photographs show, they had a lot of fun along the way!

The team included: John Anderson, Peter Sumner, Andrew Brownlow, Andrew Ryan, Steve Davis, Dorian Thomas, Chris Wren, Steve Mercer, Chris Hitchen, Ian Gregory, Steve Stringer, Mike Cooper, Simon Christoforato, John Gavin, Lisa Dabinett, Chris Lyddon, David Williams, Des Amanano, Alex Davies, Paul Wright, Ian Wiltshire, Tracy Vine, Mark Sydenham, John Scammell, Phil Hilton, Adrian Britton, Graeme Morrison, Jonathan Collier, Nick Everett, Chanene Romain, Matthew Fooks, Adam Wallis, Jamie Moughton and Guy Tomlinson.
